Are y
ou wanting the new iPhone 3GS because it shoots video, unlike your current 1st gen. iPhone? A new app was just recently added to the app store and allows you to shoot video on previous generation iPhones.
The app is named ‘Camcorder’ and is only $.99 (and there’s a reason for that). This app shoots video at only 3 frames per second with just okay audio. This goes to show you why the iPhone was not meant to shoot video.
Originally, the videos that you shoot could not be accessed anywhere except on your iPhone. You could only watch them there until you delete them. With a recent software update, you can now save the video you shot to your camera roll.
This is the first way you could shoot video with previous gen iPhones without jail breaking. If you are interested in doing live video from your iPhone, also check out Ustream’s LIVE Broadcaster. I guess Apple has loosened up on the approval process because it’s allowing users to take video on iPhones not made for video.
For jail broken iPhones, you can use Cydia’s Cycorder App. I personally have never jail broken an iPhone. It voids your warranty and it seems like I am bringing in my iPod Touch in every week to the Apple Store for some type of problem.
Apple is allowing the use of unapproved API’s. I wonder how this will affect the app store. What do you think?
